JAMIE McGOWAN

Jamie McGowan began his martial arts training as a teenager, learning rifle marksmanship as an army cadet, then went on to train and compete in freestyle wrestling during high school.

Later, in his twenties, he trained in Jeet Kune Do, Boxe Française Savate, Boxing, Muay Thai, Inosanto Kali, Shooto, MMA and Sambo. He then trained and competed in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, stickfighting and pistol tournaments.

He continued his training in Filipino martial arts under master Chris Bautista and received his black belt in Doce Pares Eskrima in 2002, directly from legendary grandmaster Cacoy Canete. Jamie has trained with several grandmasters of Filipino martial arts such as Philip Gelinas, Dong Questa, Leo Gaje and Diony Canete.

In 2005, he opened his first classes in Muay Thai, MMA, and Eskrima/Kali. He founded Victory Training Center in October 2012 where he has trained competitors in MMA, Muay Thai, K1 Kickboxing and stickfighting, as well as those simply looking to train for fun, mental/physical health, and self-defense. He has also had the opportunity to hold seminars and train with legends such as Canadian MMA pioneer trainer Shawn Tompkins, MMA legend Wanderlei Silva and multiple Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion Marcelo Garcia.

He also created the Victory Fight League and became Canada's largest and most active promoter of amateur combat sports, promoting over 60 events over the past 15 years in amateur MMA, Muay Thai, K1 Kickboxing, and Submission grappling. He currently continues to run Victory Training Center, where he teaches group and private classes. He is the head coach of the competition team and Jamie continues to promote amateur combat sports as a promoter, official, judge and referee.
